We hope you’ll make the most of your membership, and the opportunities it offers to enjoy a beautiful stretch of the River Cam that has been sailed by Club members for more than 125 years.

Here is some brief guidance on what happens next, and information to get you started at the Club:

The rule book will arrive in your welcome pack, normally soon after the committee meeting following your application. Committee meetings are normally the last Friday of the month. If you’ve any questions about the Club, or how to get sailing, that haven’t been answered by information on our website or in the rulebook, then please do contact a member of the Committee or the Sailing/Membership Secretaries.

If you already have friends or family at the Club who are happy to act as your mentor then please ask for their help and guidance.

A good way to meet new and established members is to come along to one of the Sunday socials or Wednesday evening leisure sailing sessions as scheduled in our programme. A tasty BBQ and drink is normally available at a very reasonable cost. There is also the chance of catching a ride in a dinghy or one of half deckers and river cruisers.

You are now welcome to access the Club grounds and facilities. The gate code will be given upon joining and changes annually with the new code published in the annual Sailing Secretary letter. It also opens all of the sheds and the rear door of the clubhouse. Please don’t share it with non-members, and remember to close all sheds and clubhouse if you’re the last to leave the Club grounds.

Members can use the Club boats at no extra charge. Just sign the book in the clubhouse before taking a boat out, and sign it back in (and report any issues that need fixing or email the Boatswain) on your return . You should wear buoyancy aids when using Club boats, and they shouldn’t be taken out in winds above F4. A Committee member will be able to show you where the Club boats and rigs are located.

A few points to be aware of please:

  • Dogs brought to the Club must be kept on a lead at all times, and are not allowed inside the Clubhouse or on the veranda
  • Car parking is limited to the area near the entrance gate
  • Loading or unloading of cars is permitted at the end of the roadway but cars must be returned to the car park on completion
  • Driving across the lawn is permitted with prior permission from a committee member but please drive cautiously and at less busy times
  • There are trolleys for transporting items to the Clubhouse or dinghy park and these are stored near the outside toilet block (behind the Clubhouse)
  • All items left at the Club should be clearly labelled with your name including boats and trailers/trolleys
  • Visitors can accompany you up to four times a year but must be signed in the visitor book in the clubhouse
